Design and Technology Little Lessons

A message from DT TO KS3 – the one thing that we need to remember is that everything we look at and use every day has been designed by someone – the games you play on x box, the clothes you wear, the seats you sit on the food you eat and its packaging.

You may not realise it but you are evaluating – yes evaluating – things every time you use them …. For example you eat you tea and all your senses tell you what is nice about it what you may not like about it the same as you have talked about in lessons … you try on a new pair of trainers they either feel right or they don’t and you could if you thought about it in a bit more detail come up with the reasons why they don’t feel right.

TO YEAR 8 We think that especially if you are choosing one of our subjects for GCSE it is a good idea to spend some time doing some further work in this area.  I will make you better prepared and also give you a wider knowledge base.  Of course, even if you are not doing a GCSE then we believe that to look at and use these ideas will help with everything else that you do.  Guess we are biased!

There is a really good website that you could spend some time investigating –

https://designmuseum.org/digital-design-calendar/young-design-museum

There are lots of activities that you could try such as design your own environmentally friendly packaging – you could look at a variety of packaging and what they are made of (evaluation) then use this lesson plan to help you design your own.  There is lots of information and video clips you could watch to help you. imagination station pts 1 – 4 look brilliant too which has downloadable work sheets to look at and then you can use the shapes to create your own idea maybe a space ship or a playground – of course if you cannot download the shapes you could make your own 3D shapes to use!

The activities are added to weekly and there are all the different ones that have already been uploaded in CATCH UP.

Lots of lovely things you could try and we would love to see the end results as always …. ENJOY !!!!
